Recent years have witnessed a marked growth of fire accidents in cities. We often see flashing fire engines rushing through the streets. Fires have not only caused heavy econornic losses but also injured and killed many people.
What are the causes of fire accidents? Most of the fires are caused by carelessness and violation of fire safety regulations. Other fires are caused by home electrical appliances, because they are of poor quality or because people do not know how to use them properly. Besides, some businesses have focused so much of their atlention on profits that they often ignore fire precautions.
To prevent fires and reduce iamages from fire accidents, we should educate people to raise their sense of fire prevention, warn children of the dangers of playing with matches, and instruct workers to be more careful with insulation. In addition, we should improve existing fire engines and add more fire facilities to high buildings. Thus, the fire prevention system will become more reliable.

in my opinion, in order to prevent fires we should first of all foster peoples sense of fire prevention. the second thing we have to do is to increase the number of professional fire fighters, to whom regular training courses should be offered. finally, we are to improve the eisting fire engines and add more fire facilities to high-rise buildings. in this way, a reliable fire prevention system will be formed.

it is known to all that smoking does a lot of ha rm, not only to smokers themselves , but also to people a round who are actually unconscious victims . according to the statistics obtained , approxima tely 3 million people die of lung cance r and other fat al diseases every year .
for tunately , nowadays more and more people have become awa re of the harmful effect of smoking . tobacco consumption is decr easing . tobacco production is decreasing ( has dropped to 14 .2 billion pounds in 1995 as against 14 .364 billion pounds in 1994 ) . the numbe r of smokers is decreasing . finally , we believe in the advance of society , we believe in a new world without smoking , we believe in people .
